It’s not often that two major icons die on the same day. All the nightly news will go to Michael Jackson, but Farrah went out with class and dignity.

Enjoy the song “YOU” sung by Farrah and Jean Paul Vignon, recorded in 1977. Thanks Farrah.

YOU

Happy Pride, wherever you are..

It seems like the whole world is finally coming around. Gays aren’t “sick homos” anymore. We’re all more understood and everyone has friends and family who are gay. BUT…some things will never change…

Adam and Eve, the real story…

One, Two, take a look at you…death by matrimony!….

Back in the Napster days, there were a few entertaining Mommie Dearest music mixes that incorporated choice dialogue from the film, but here’s one that I missed..and it’s good. The accompanying video is a great visual mix to the music, but ultimately you just need to hear Faye Dunaway’s bitching voice to make it all work.

Don’t Fuck With Me Fellas!

I have been a huge fan of this beat poem from the Mamie Van Doren flick High School Confidential for years. About 8 years ago I was determined enough to figure out how to pull this track from a VCR that I had hooked up to my computer…and in all honesty, I think I spent weeks trying to figure out how to do it, just so I could take this song from the classic film which features Jackie Coogan, seen here blasting on the upright piano. Now it’s yours.

Here’s a clip from the movie and the mp3 below.

Tomorrow Drag

EXTRA:

Herman Munster is not quite as hep…notice Zalman King at the end of this Munsters clip.

I am so thankful that certain songs are covered ad nauseum. I have a pretty long list of them that I love, one of which is Jeannie C. Riley’s Harper Valley PTA . I will eventually put a PTA mix together, but until then enjoy the picks below.

Harper Valley PTA is so special that the song inspired a movie. How awesome is that when it happens? This reminds me that I need to get a “The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia” mix or proper entry up…especially since I just mentioned it yesterday .

Be sure to listen/download Tammy Faye Bakker’s version of Harper Valley PTA rewritten so she can complain about the fate of Heritage USA and the evil of Jerry Falwell.

A couple of summers ago I could not start my weekends without cranking this song really loud. Try it. Get some bacon sizzling, the coffee on and see what happens. It’s very empowering.

Sweet City Woman – The Johnny Mann Singers

I love music from people who probably shouldn’t be trying to have a musical career. Call them Golden Throats or celebrity musical disasters or whatever sounds good to you…their music no matter how bad or mediocre always sounds incredible to me …especially covers because I’m a cover whore.  I wonder if Carol Burnett felt the need to put out her own record because Vicki Lawrence had such a huge hit with The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia

It doesn’t really matter because I love Carol’s version of “I Never Promised You A Rose Garden”…she sounds so frikkin indignant when she says “I beg your pardon”…so much better than the way Lynn Anderson sang it.

Screw you…I Never Promised You A Rose Garden

And you can get the mp3  to this instant classic here.

I am a sucker for cover songs, even if I don’t like the original version so I could not pass this single up when I found it several years ago at a flea market in Madrid. I had never heard of Kuldip and instantly fell in love with his turban and was obviously anxious to hear his rendition of Shirley Bassey’s Goldfinger.

Kuldip is one suave motherfucker.

Kuldip is one suave motherfucker.

There’s not much information on the man and I kind of like not knowing more than I already know…NOTHING, but I did see some recent photos and he has moved away from the turban and is doing a kind of a cowboy thing now.

If that is not enough, you can get an entire album here.
