I am so thankful that certain songs are covered ad nauseum. I have a pretty long list of them that I love, one of which is Jeannie C. Riley’s Harper Valley PTA . I will eventually put a PTA mix together, but until then enjoy the picks below.

Harper Valley PTA is so special that the song inspired a movie. How awesome is that when it happens? This reminds me that I need to get a “The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia” mix or proper entry up…especially since I just mentioned it yesterday .

Be sure to listen/download Tammy Faye Bakker‘s version of Harper Valley PTA rewritten so she can complain about the fate of Heritage USA and the evil of Jerry Falwell.

A couple of summers ago I could not start my weekends without cranking this song really loud. Try it. Get some bacon sizzling, the coffee on and see what happens. It’s very empowering.

When I found this record I had high hopes for it. If I threw a party and got at least one person to throw down like the chick on the cover, then that’s a successful dance party! Not even to mention the shock font they used to suggest that your dance party will be downright electrical if you play this record. But what the record doesn’t really say clearly is that if  you actually play it,  you really will be the only person to Dance At Your Party.

I guess I didn’t pay much attention to the songs that were on the disc before I bought it (not that that matters much), but how could I not have heard of “Jungle Ted and the Laceybuttonpoppers”? Whatever..it sucks on this disc.

Still, I do have a sick place in my heart for some of this shit and I will enjoy it in the privacy of my own home and when I need to clear out a party.

Don’t hate me for not being a Beatles fan, but I do like a good bastardization of a Beatles hit and this disc, Easy Listening Beatles, is full of them. Actually, I only sampled my two favorite tracks because the others reminded me too much of the Beatles….they just weren’t messed up enough.

One of my favorite things about this record is the lady on the cover. My Sweet Lord, did she just mainline right into Percy Faith?
