The Godfather of Porn, Gerard Damiano is dead at the age of 80. With over 50 films to his credit, he will forever be remembered for the Linda Lovelace ground breaker, Deep Throat (1972) which ushered in the Golden Age of Porn. No longer viewed as obscene filth, porn became “chic” and well-dressed couples began showing up at theaters right alongside the raincoat brigade. You just weren’t hip unless you could say, “I saw it.”

Due in part to protesters, the film became a phenomenon and one of the biggest money makers of all time. Made for just $25,000, it has gone to make upwards of 600 million, perhaps the most profitable film of all time. Thanks, Christian Right!

I recommend Flesh & Blood #1 for further reading on Damiano and his films.

Box at Cooper Station, which probably made me a neighbor of Linna since I lived in that neighborhood from 1993-2002.
