One, Two, take a look at you…death by matrimony!….
Many years ago when I was living in San Francisco, a friend brought over a copy of Crazy Fat Ethyl 2, announcing with pride that it was his favorite movie. The film was mostly flashbacks of scenes from the original, Criminally Insane, and the rest was poorly shot video. The one redeeming factor was that Priscilla Alden returned twelve years later to reprise her role as the insatiable Ethyl.
At the time I saw CFE2, I noted that the flashbacks were shot in SF and I decided to look up Ms. Alden and to my surprise, she was listed. I phoned her up and asked, “Is this Crazy Fat Ethyl?” The hesitant voice on the other end said, “Maybe…” I asked her if she wanted to go out for a drink with us and she agreed to it!
My friend who had been practically masturbating to this horrible sequel was beside himself and could not believe we were actually going to meet his current favorite actress. We went for a drink somewhere on Haight St. then went over to the I-Beam where the Del Rubio Triplets were performing that night. At some point Priscilla lost one of her earrings and became irritable and it seemed to ruin the rest of her night. But it was still a surreal and wild night that I look back on fondly. Sadly, according to the IMDB, Priscilla Alden died in August 2007. She also stars in Death Nurse, which I have yet to see.
Criminally Insane is brilliantly simple. A fat lunatic goes on a killing spree because she doesn’t want to diet and in between meals, she frets about the death stench that quickly begins to permeate her San Francisco flat.
Nearly every scene has film still worthy moments and I’ve captured my favorites below.
